Earthquake in Haiti

As anyone who pays attention to the news cycle knows, the caribbean island nation of Haiti has been hit by a major 7 magnitude earthquake. Estimates have 3 million people affected and thousands dead. Most major infrastructure in the capital city of Port-au-Prince has been decimated (ie Parliament, schools, hospitals…)

We can help. Listed below are direct links to the major channels through which you can donate money:

UNICEF- The United Nations’ childrens’ aide organization. Children are always the hardest hit in a natural disaster, UNICEF is working for them.

Rest In Peace, Miep Gies.

I am a shameless self-promoter, so normally I wouldn’t upstage a recent post. Especially not one I am as proud of as “Main Street, Akron.” This is a special, sad occasion, however. Miep Gies has passed away. For those of you who do not know, Ms. Gies was partly responsible for hiding Anne Frank. She was, and continues to be, a beacon for courage and tolerance. May she be assured quick passage to a pleasant place. Here is the NPR write-up:

Main Street, Akron

I have been pseudo-homeless in Akron for the last six days, couch surfing and ride bumming like a champ. These photos are of Main Street in Akron, which I was walking down while waiting on my friend Colin to finish class.
